Dunkirk reappoints athletic director

The position of athletic director was recently filled at a Dunkirk Board of Education meeting.

In consensus agenda items, the board passed the appointment of Alan Gens to continue on as athletic director with a monthly stipend of $850.

Previously Gens was appointed as the full-time assistant vice principal at the high school after the board abolished the two part-time assistant principal positions. Gens was also appointed part-time director of community education.

Superintendent Gary Cerne said Gens will fill the position with the monthly stipend and in the summer the board will re-evaluate the position.

The board also appointed Timothy Abbey as clerk of the works for phase III of the capital project at a rate of $1,000 per month.

The board accepted bids for phase III at its meeting. Cerne said the bids came in under budget so that all planned projects can be done with extra in case of change orders.

The board also renewed the contract with the CSEA. Cerne said the renewal came with a $0.40 per hour increase for those employees.

The next board meeting will be held April 23 at 6:30 p.m.
