Police as Reading Partners celebrated

GOWANDA – Gowanda Elementary School students recently celebrated PARP as “Police as Reading Partners.” School Resource Officer Jen Alessi and the Gowanda PTA created the twist on the acronym PARP and it has been something the students look forward to every year as part of promoting the importance of reading. The students were able to meet and listen to police officers from different agencies as the officers visited classrooms and read a book. The books included stories about police officers and their jobs, how to deal with a bully, how to be a good friend, the importance of telling the truth and other character traits important to a successful life. Each officer then answered questions from the children.

Law enforcement agencies and officers who volunteered were: Gowanda Police Department, K9 Officer Dave Hock and Mike, Erie County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Eric Kaderli, New York State Police Trooper Mike Connors, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Deputies Marra Arena and Lance Thursdon, and North Collins Police Officer Phil Tremblay.
