Woman, 84, dies in Gerry car/pedestrian accident

GERRY – Jamestown-based State Police responded to Harris Hill Road in Gerry this morning for a report of a car/pedestrian motor vehicle accident.

Investigation revealed that Jamie Carder, 34, of Falconer, was driving a 2007 Jeep in a northerly direction when at about 8:20 a.m., she crested a hill and observed a female crossing the road from her paper box. Carder took evasive action to avoid the accident but was unsuccessful. After Carder struck the pedestrian, she pulled over and had a third party call 911. The pedestrian, identified only as an 84-year-old resident of Gerry, was transported to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Carder has not been charged criminally, nor was she issued any tickets for her role in the collision.
