First Niagara promotes Gary Pacos to senior vice president

BUFFALO – First Niagara Financial Group, Inc. has promoted Gary Pacos to senior vice president, compliance and operational risk.

Pacos is responsible for First Niagara’s corporatewide compliance monitoring, testing, risk assessment and fair lending data analytics programs, the corporate-wide operational risk assessment process, departmental reporting, regulatory oversight of entity-wide customer interactions and internet/social media monitoring programs.

Prior to joining First Niagara, Pacos served as vice president, deputy compliance officer and compliance testing manager for M&T Bank. He was also vice president, compliance testing manager for HSBC. Pacos is founder and chairperson of the Compliance Testing Manager’s Forum, a national symposium for compliance testing in the banking industry. He also is currently serving on the American Bankers Association National Compliance School advisory board and faculty.

Pacos has served our country as a major/senior Army aviator in the U.S. Army/New York Army National Guard. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York, College at Fredonia. He also has an associate of arts degree from Jamestown Community College, and attended the U.S. Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) with both institutions. He is a 1984 graduate of Fredonia High School.
