Eastern Star Bake Sale Friday

On Friday, there will be an Eastern Star Bake Sale at Evans Bank in Forestville beginning at 9 a.m.

Sheridan blood drive Wednesday

The Sheridan Memorial Field Association is sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Sheridan VFW Post 6390, 2556 Route 20, Sheridan.

Walk-ins are welcome or call 1-800-733-2767 to schedule an appointment.

Individuals who are at least 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Proper ID is required. Enter for a chance to win a Preparedness Kit and be “Red Cross Ready!”

Laona Egg Hunt scheduled for Saturday

The Laona Easter Egg Hunt will be holding its 28th egg hunt this year Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Laona Playground/Com-munity Park.

There will be the annual bunny raffle and a basket for everyone.

Parents should have their children dress accordingly for the weather. All are welcome.

Organizational meeting for Dunkirk’s Farmer and Artisan Market

set for Thursday

Dunkirk’s Farmer and Artisan Market will hold an organizational meeting Thursday at 5 p.m. at the JCC North Conference and Training Center.

All potential farmers, artisans and vendors are encouraged to attend. Site location, days and times of the market, market makeup and layout, and updates on programming will be reviewed.

An update on funding and the recent NYS Farm-er’s Market Federation conference will also be given.

Soil & Water directors to meet

Chautauqua County Soil & Water Conservation District Directors will hold a regular meeting on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Frank W. Bratt AG Center, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown.

City Hall closed Friday

Dunkirk City Hall will be closed Friday in observance of Good Friday.

There will be no change in the rubbish pickup schedule.

Mayor to speak to Rotary today

Dunkirk Mayor Anthony J. Dolce will speak to the Rotary Club of Dunkirk this afternoon at the Shorewood Country Club.

The lunch meeting begins at 12:15 p.m. and will include a short recap of the State of the City address, which was made on March 15. The mayor will then take questions from the audience.

There is a $10.50 fee for lunch and the public is invited to attend.

Fredonia church to sponsor 1,000 Easter egg hunt

As part of its Easter celebration, Christ Community Church, 219 Berry Road, Fredonia, will hold a 1,000 Easter egg hunt on the church grounds Saturday.

The egg hunt, which will take place at 11 a.m. is open to all children in the community fifth grade and under. Younger children will have their own area for the egg hunt.

Children will also get the chance to make a craft and get a snack.

Children should dress appropriately for the weather. If necessary the hunt will be moved indoors.

Chautauqua County Parks Commission meeting Thursday

The Chautauqua County Parks Commission will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday at the Chau-tauqua County Airport in Jamestown at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Dunkirk Free Library to host local author April 2

The Dunkirk Free Library will welcome local author and artist George Clever on April 2 at 5:30 p.m. for a book signing. Clever will give a presentation, titled “Top Ten Things You Should Know About Your Writing and Self-Publishing.”

Clever is the author of the poetry collection “Dancing with Grandfather,” its structure informed by the tradition of the American Indian star quilt, as well as the forthcoming collection “Bear Lake Monster and Other Clever Stories.”

Clever is an artist, musician, educator, administrator and storyteller in the Delaware (Lenape) Ameri-can Indian tradition. He lives in Bear Lake, where he pursues his passion for American Indian art and activism.
