JAMESTOWN – Cle-mont “Cle” Austin of E. E. Austin & Son was recently presented the Southern Tier Builders Association’s “2013 Circle of Excellence Award” The award was presented by Stan Martinelli, President of the Associa-tion. The award is given out each year for outstanding contributions to the construction industry.

The E. E. Austin & Son Company has been operating for over 100 years in Northwestern Pennsylvania and Southern New York. Austin represents the fourth generation of the Austin family in the business and has been in place for over 30 years. The company was founded in 1906 by Edward Everett Austin (E.E. Austin), a former schoolteacher. In 1930, the company opened one of the first 100 ready-mix concrete plants in the country. Austin began working for E.E. Austin in 1976. In May 2000, he purchased Barnes Construction Corp. of Falconer. E.E. Austin’s work includes but is not limited to Presque Isle Downs Race Track & Casino, St. Bonaventure’s Walsh Science Center, Erie Shriners Hospital, The Robert H. Jackson Center, the Olean General Hospital and the NYSUT office building in Jamestown.

“One reason Cle’s name came to the forefront was his overwhelming use of local labor on the WCA Hospital’s Emergency Room project here in Jamestown. Cle and WCA went out of their way to make sure people in the community were working on a community based hospital. Both Cle and WCA are to be congratulated for that.” He went on to say “The WCA project along with Mr. Austin’s business instincts and practices put him over the top this year,” Martinelli said

“Each year the award is given to someone whose contribution to the industry and their business has exceeded what would be expected of anyone under normal circumstances. The growth and innovation demonstrated under Cle’s leadership is undeniable. He is very worthy of this award and we are proud to have him as a member,” Brad Walters, the association’s executive director, said.
