Sheridan board sets camping rates
SHERIDAN – Rates for campsites at the Sheridan Town Park were set at the recent Sheridan Town Board meeting.
The board discussed increasing the rates at its workshop meeting in order to offset the cost of electricity.
Town Clerk Julie Szumigala said the town has received many phone calls already looking to reserve campsites.
The board set rates for Sheridan Bay Park rentals at $15 per night for primitive sites (no electric or water), tents, pop-ups and single axle trailers $17 per night, $100 per week or $300 per month or $900 per season (Memorial through Labor Day), and fifth wheels, multi axle trailers and motorhomes $20 per night, $120 per week, $390 per month or $1,200 per season. These increases were previously discussed based on the use of electricity for the different types of camping vehicles.
The pavilion rental was agreed upon to be $50 per day plus a $50 returnable deposit.
The board also approved rates for renting the community center for private individuals at $125 per day or $20 per hour with a $125 returnable deposit and $150 for a day and prior evening set up plus the deposit. Non-profit rates were set at $10 per hour and the recreation department and Sheridan Happy seniors are allowed to use the building free of charge as long as it is available.
The board did not decide whether to increase the number of members on the board of assessment review from three to five.
At a previous meeting the board approved the fire protection contract for 2013.
Code Enforcement Officer Jim Crowell said he had heard from Norfolk Southern about the sinkhole on Middle Road and it determined the hole is on CSX property. He said Town Attorney Jeffrey Passafaro is aware of the situation.
Crowell also reported receiving responses to questions the Department of Conservation asked about the Munch Shale Pit application. The document is available for viewing in the clerk’s office.
The town board will have a workshop and special meeting April 8 at 7 p.m. The next regular meeting will be held April 18 at 7:30 p.m.
