Churches to hold joint Easter Vigil service tonight

Lake Erie Lutheran Parish, consisting of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Silver Creek and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dunkirk, will hold Easter Vigil worship service at 7 p.m. today at Grace Lutheran.

The Great Vigil of Easter, or Paschal Vigil, marks the pronouncement of Christ’s resurrection and is therefore an essential worship element in the Christian Holy Week. Celebrated in many Christian churches, the Vigil traditionally begins outside, gathered around the Eternal Fire from which the Paschal candle is lit. The exclamation of “alleluia” also returns to the worship experience after having been absent during the contemplative season of Lent. Traditionally, multiple readings are followed by prayer and Holy Communion during the service. Pastor Hahn, serving Grace and Zion, will preside with several members of the parish reading and leading.

The community is invited to come and share in this joyful event at Grace Lutheran, 601 Eagle Street.
