Fredonia church egg hunt up to 1,500 eggs

Last year as part of its Easter celebration, Christ Community Church, 219 Berry Road, Fredonia, held a 1,000 Easter egg hunt.

Well, this year’s egg hunt is up to 1,500 eggs!

The egg hunt, which will take place at the church grounds today at 11 a.m., is open to all children in the community fifth grade and under. Younger children will have their own area for the egg hunt.

Children will also get the chance to make a craft and get a snack.

Children should dress appropriately for the weather.

STEL accepting nominations for community service awards

Southern Tier Environments for Living Inc., a residential and rehabilitation agency serving people with psychiatric disabilities, is accepting nominations for its two annual Community Service Awards.

According to STEL executive director Thomas J. Whitney, nominations forms have been distributed throughout the agency’s service area, which includes Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Southern Erie counties. The deadline for nominations is April 15.

The awards, one to an individual and one to an organization, will be given for outstanding service to individuals with serious mental illness. Recipients of past awards have included Judge Walter Drag, the late Dr. Chris Kaczmarek and Dr. Colleen Lewis.

Among the organizations that have received an award are The Genesis House of Olean, Gowanda Ambulance Service and Spoke Folk of Dunkirk.

The awards will be presented at STEL’s annual “May is Mental Health Month” luncheon at Chautauqua Suites Meeting and Expo Center in Mayville.

Lake Shore Savings offers home buyer seminar

Lake Shore Savings will offer a home buyer seminar on April 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at its Fredonia branch location at 30 E. Main St. There is no admission fee for this seminar, and participants will be eligible for a waiver of application fee for a six-month period. Presenters include Patty Bertges, mortgage originator; Adam Dimitri, assistant vice president; Stephen Zanghi, attorney; and Alan Shaw, realtor. They will discuss such topics as credit scores, mortgage pre-qualification, applying for mortgages, down payment requirements, closing costs and the available mortgage products and programs. Village of Gowanda to host electronic recycling event

The village of Gowanda will host an electronic recycling event on Saturday, April 6. The event will be held at the wastewater treatment plant from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
