Boater safety courses scheduled

The Chautauqua County Office of the Sheriff will be holding four boater safety courses this spring. There is no pre-registration required to attend any of these courses. The safety courses are free to anyone ages 10 to 17. Those attendees 18 and over will have to pay a $10 fee to New York State prior to receiving the certification card.

These classes are NYS approved Boater Safety classes required for anyone between 10 and 18 years old to operate a boat (motorboat) and everyone ages 14 and older to operate a personal watercraft (jet ski). Again, there is no preregistration required for any of these courses. Registration will take place at the course and parents of attendees under the age of 18 must sign a release form. These courses are listed on the Sheriff’s office web page at www.sheriff.us, and on the NYS OPRHP website. Course dates and locations are as follows:

May 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cassadaga American Legion, 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga. Students should bring a bagged lunch.

May 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Lawson Center, 73 Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point. Lunch will be provided.

May 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Southwestern Middle School, 600 Hunt Road, Jamestown. Students should bring a bagged lunch.

June 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, 1 N. Mullet St., Dunkirk. Lunch will be provided.
