Benefit set for Gowanda resident

A benefit for John Press, a Gowanda resident battling stage 4 cancer, will be held April 17 at the Gowanda Slovenian Club from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This all-day event includes live music, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, a bake sale, a drawing for a 46-inch television and more. Raffle tickets are $5, and food will be available for purchase. There is no admission charge. For more information on the event or how to help, call Lori Petersen at 229-1585.

Silver Creek Food Pantry seeks items for match

The Silver Creek Food Pantry is participating in the Alan Shawn Feinstein 16th Annual One Million Give-Away to fight hunger. Any donations the pantry receives until April 30 can be matched with this give-away. Donations of food, checks or money orders are accepted. To donate, contact Colleen at 934-4570 or send any monetary donations to P.O. Box 173, Silver Creek 14136. Food can be dropped at the pantry, 260 Central Ave., Silver Creek.

This is the Silver Creek pantry’s first time participating.

Silver Creek Central School Board petitions available

Deputy District Clerk Linda Borrello announces that petitions for Silver Creek Central School board candidates are now available. Petitions are available at the District Clerk’s office located in the District Office at 1 Dickinson St., Silver Creek.

Board vacancies for the 2013-2014 school year include one 5-year expired term currently held by Greg Cole and one unexpired 1-year term that was held by Amy Chavez who recently resigned.

Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the School District and must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the district. Petitions must be returned to Borrello no later than 5 p.m. on April 22.

The budget vote and election is scheduled to be held on May 21 from 1 to 9 p.m. in the High School Lobby.

Brocton Board of Education petitions available

Petitions for candidates who wish to run for the board of education are available in the District Clerk’s office during regular working hours (7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.) There are two at-large vacancies on the board, currently held by Susan Hardy and David Hazelton.

Petitions are due back to the District Clerk no later than April 22.
