MAC Fest Saturday in city to benefit Aili Makuch

The second annual “MAC Fest” (Musicians Against Cancer ) to benefit children and their families battling cancer will take place Saturday at the Dunkirk Moose Lodge 89 on Lake Shore Drive.

This year, all proceeds will benefit 16-year-old Aili Makuch, a local cancer patient. From 4 to 7 p.m., a barbecued chicken and rib dinner will be available, including pop, beer, coffee, various salads and desserts. From 7 to 10 p.m., music from Good Time Good Tune Music will be featured, along with local talented guests.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle, an electric guitar raffle and a silent auction. Tickets are $15 presale and $20 at the door.

Dunkirk School District pre-k registration starts today

The Dunkirk City School District will conduct registrations for the 2013-2014 school year. Registrations begins today and continue through May 17 at the Administration Building, 620 Marauder Drive.

Pending approval of universal prekindergarten funding by New York state, the district anticipates operating the prekindergarten program at Wheelock School in Fredonia for the 2013-2014 school year.

New York state funds a limited number of spots for this program. The district does not have a first-come, firstserve registration list. Student placement will be determined through the use of a lottery system to be held in late May as required by the New York State Education Department.

Reed’s staff to be in Dunkirk Tuesday

Congressman Tom Reed’s staff will hold remote office hours Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Dunkirk City Hall, 342 Central Ave. in Dunkirk.

Reed’s staff will be on the second floor of the Dunkirk City Hall April 9 to answer any questions and gather feedback and concerns from constituents. Whether it’s a Social Security, Medicare, veterans or any other question or concern with a federal government agency, Congressman Reed’s staff will be available to help.
