Local guild to host renowned quilter

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Quilters’ Guild will bring National Quilting Instructor Linda Pool to the area May 16-18. Pool will be giving a trunk show lecture, as well as teaching several workshops.

Pool is perhaps best known for her work, The Bride. It received the Viewer’s Choice award in five major quilt shows in a row, and was published in magazines and a calendar. It utilizes a technique she calls counted creations, which uses gridded planning and strip piecing methods to turn images into quilts. Pool has also done work with mixed media still life scenes, miniatures, and her current focus of cutwork lace applique.

The American Quilter’s Society describes Pool as such:

“Always ready for a new challenge, Linda Pool has created some of the most recognizable quilts in the world. The Bride, The Greatest Moments of a Girl’s Life, and Linda’s Lace have won prestigious awards and are all totally different in technique. At the moment, Linda is specializing in cutwork applique and is the owner of the pattern company Very Victorian, LLC.”

Living in Virginia, Pool teaches nationally and has had her quilts exhibited throughout the world.”

The guild will be honored to view some historic works, as well as see the breadth of her interests and experiences. Guests will be welcome with a $5 fee for the lecture, which will be held Thursday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Westfield.

Workshops will be given Friday, May 17 on the counted creations technique, and Saturday, May 18 on a cutwork lace applique project and a miniature quilted work. They will cost $40 per day, or $75 for both days of class. Quilters from outside the guild are welcome to contact Carol Bish at 753-2041 or bishjc@yahoo.com for information on classes.
