Tarnowski leads Fredonia to league-opening win
GOWANDA – Baylee Tarnowski scattered six hits and did not allow a walk as she fanned 11 batters in leading the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies past Gowanda, 11-4, Monday in CCAA Division 1 high school softball.
The game marked the first of the season for both squads.
Tarnowski helped her own cause at the plate with two hits. The Lady Hillbillies opened the game up in the sixth and seventh innings as they scored four runs in each frame.
Alicia Deering had a two-run single and Erin Ruffino had three RBIs for the winners. Karlie Schwertfager also had two hits and an RBI for the winners.
For Gowanda, Allison Keller went 2 for 2 with a home run while Jess Sowa went 3 for 3 with a triple. Markie John doubled in a losing effort.
Gowanda returns to action today when it travels to North Collins.
Ripley 14, Westfield 7
RIPLEY – The Ripley Lady Eagles used an 11-run first inning to breeze past Westfield, 14-7, Monday in non-league high school softball action.
The Lady Eagles sent 16 batters to the plate in the opening frame. Emilee Steger had two RBI singles in the inning. Sam Trevelline went 4 for 4 with two RBIs in the victory.
Steger was the winning pitcher as she went seven innings and struck out seven, walked one and gave up four earned runs.
Laura Tofil was the losing pitcher as she allowed five walks and nine hits. She struck out four in six innings of work.
Rachel Allen swung a hot bat for the Lady Wolverines with three hits while Katherine Catalano and Hillary Nelson each went 2 for 4 in a losing effort.
North Collins 11, Silver Creek 4
NORTH COLLINS – The North Collins Lady Eagles broke open a 4-all deadlock with a six-run sixth inning to knock off Silver Creek, 11-4, Monday in non-league high school softball action.
North Collins belted 18 hits – all singles. Christine Blidy went 3 for 4 with a run scored while Nichole Torrey was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Jayvee callup Emily Voilanti went 2 for 2 with three runs scored.
Jessica Lawton was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts and two walks. She scattered eight hits through seven innings. She also helped her own cause at the plate with two hits.
Pine Valley 3,
BROCTON – The Pine Valley Lady Panthers scored two runs in the seventh inning to rally past Brocton, 3-2, Monday in non-league high school softball action.
Erin Waterman’s two-run single proved to be the game-winning hit as she scored Aleah Fancher and Cassandra Tingue.
The Lady Bulldogs’ two runs came in the fourth as Morgan Bennett had an RBI triple and scored on a Kayde Putcher fielder’s choice.
Alex Bentham was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts while Jess Putcher was the losing pitcher with nine strikeouts. Both pitchers yielded just two hits.
