The Sheridan Fire Department responded to a brush fire Monday afternoon. At 12:30 p.m. firefighters were called to 2579 Whitaker Road in the town for a brush fire. According to First Assistant Fire Chief Mike Keddie, less than an acre burned. The fire was right at the edge of the woodline; some woods as well as some field had burned. The fire was contained and extinguished in about 10 minutes, Keddie said. He believes the cause was burning leaves or brush lighted by someone caused the fire. Sheridan Fire Department also responded to two brush fires on Sunday. New York state is currently under a no burning ban through May 14 required by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
