Enactus Fredonia to compete in Chicago

The SUNY Fredonia Enactus team is heading to the Enactus regional competition in Chicago.

On Friday, members of the Enactus Fredonia will compete with hundreds of universities from across the country and is hoping to win the regional title for the 16th year in a row.

Enactus is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.

A global organization, Enactus has chapters in schools across the world, creating projects within their communities.

Each team has the opportunity to present their work in a highly competitive regional competition.

Six team members – Greg Minchak, Christina Bakos, Chelsea Patterson, Briana Noto, Kayla Wojciechowski, and Chris Jung – will represent Enactus Fredonia by presenting in Chicago.

The presentation will cover the seven different projects that the team has undertaken during the academic year, as well as the Enactus Expo that was designed to showcase the projects and educate the Fredonia community about Enactus and its mission.

This year’s projects include: Greenwave, which focuses on helping local businesses go green; Fred20, which is creating a sustainable water bottle; Recycle Ink; High School Bridges, a leadership team working with high schools in the community; Life is Fragile, which focuses on an anti-bullying campaign in elementary schools; Think Before You Act, which has been working with college and high school students to make positive decisions and pledge not to drink and drive; and the Cradle Beach team, which has been working with Cradle Beach to build awareness of the initiative to serve disabled and disadvantaged youth.

In addition to the individual projects, Enactus has worked this year to create a foundation for sustainability within the team and created many relationships with business partners in the community.

The presentation in Chicago will highlight all the work that Enactus has done this year.

The team is hoping to advance to a national competition in Kansas City, Mo., in May.
