Forestville appoints White as new clerk

FORESTVILLE – Village of Forestville residents will be seeing a new face in the village offices. Their village board approved a new village clerk.

James White of Dunkirk is the new village clerk and treasurer. White will work 25 to 30 hours in the village and will receive $50 more than the previous village clerk. Some residents had questions in regard to who White was and how he was hired.

White, who lives in Dunkirk, said he lived previously in Forestville. He said he has information technology experience as well corporate experience, including working for a credit union. He also has a degree in business administration and a MBA. There was also a question as to why White was receiving more pay than previous clerks.

Mayor Linda Aures said it was due to White’s experience.

“It’s because of his experience,” she said. “We will be weaned off of Bahgat and Laurito-Bahgat and he will be doing more work.”

Aures took heat for increasing the hourly pay for the village clerk when she ran on a platform of cutting village costs.

She responded by saying she has already cut the budget by 8 percent as mayor.

Former Mayor Beth Bowker asked Aures during the public comment portion of the meeting during what meeting she passed a resolution to terminate former deputy clerk Samantha Kozlowski. Aures said she did not need a resolution to terminate the position since it was appointed.

White will post office hours at a later time. He also said he is more than willing to share his resume or experience with anyone in the village.
