Alberta Blodgett Tadt

Alberta Blodgett Tadt, “Blondie,” 82, of Fredonia, NY, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Chautauqua County Home with her loving family at her side.

She was born June 1, 1930, in Stockton, NY, to the late Elbert and Flossie (Kennedy) Blodgett.

Alberta graduated from Fredonia High School in 1947. She was an officer of the Fredonia Savings and Loan and continued her career with Empire Savings Bank and retired from the Big E bank.

Alberta was an active member of more than 50 years with the Eastern Star, Fredonia Chapter #430 where she served as Treasurer for several years, and the Canadaway Chapter #258 after the Dunkirk and Fredonia chapters merged. Alberta was also an active member of The First United Methodist Church of Fredonia and the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Northern Chautauqua County Girl Scout Council, Dunkirk-Fredonia Zonta Club, and Jolly Friends.

Alberta loved to spend time with family and friends, and enjoyed traveling, camping and attending the activities of both her children and her grandchil-dren. In the most recent years, it was not uncommon to find her at a baseball field, a softball field, a soccer field, a hockey rink, a cross country meet, a dance recital, or a school play.

Alberta is survived by her husband of 63 years, George C. Tadt, Jr., whom she married June 11, 1949; her children: Jeffrey (Janna) Tadt, Karen (Jenness) Merrill, Nancy (Kirk) Miller, and Julie (Douglas) Essek; her grandchildren: Justin, Ben, and Brian Tadt, and David Warren, Rebecca Hija, and Rachelle Hija; Chelsey Merrill; Nicholas, Christopher, and Victoria Miller; Cody, Adam, and Cassandra Essek; her sisters: Linda Blodgett, Carol (John) Walker, and Janet (Tony) Kapuscinski; and also her sister-in-law, Margaret “Peg” Tadt, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Robert M. Tadt.

Friends and Relatives may call Friday, April 12, 2013, from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. (An Eastern Star ser-vice will be held at 7:30 p.m.) at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia, NY.

Funeral services will be held at The First United Methodist Church of Fredonia, 25 Church St., Fredonia, NY, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. A private interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
