Register pets for the ‘Cutest Pet Contest’ at the Dunkirk Free Library
The Friends of the Dunkirk Free Library announce their spring fundraiser, the “Cutest Pet Contest.” The contest will run through the month of May to coincide with National Pet Month, and all proceeds will help fund computer classes at the library. Registration will take place at the library on Saturday, April 20 beginning at 10 a.m. and is open to the first 20 pets.
Directions for entering a pet in the contest are as follows: Pick up a registration form from the main desk of the library (available now). Fill out the “Pet Owner Information” section. Attach a clear picture of the pet to the label, add his or her name, and tape or glue that to the front of an empty plastic or metal coffee can. Decorate the remainder of the can as desired. Cut a small slit in the lid for people to cast their “votes,” and bring the can and completed information form to the library on April 20. The Friends will be on hand to register the first 20 pets. Only one pet per can and one can per family is allowed.
Votes will be cast from May 1 through 31 by people depositing spare change into the cans of their favorite pets. The pet who collects the most money will be declared the winner. Each week, the Friends will post which pet is in the lead on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-the-Dunkirk-Free-Library. The winner of the contest will be announced at 1 p.m. at the Friends of the Dunkirk Free Library’s Book Sale on June 1 at the library, and also on Facebook. The winner’s owner will be notified by phone. The winning pet will get his or her picture in the OBSERVER, a pet gift basket including generous donations from Purina, and bragging rights as “The Cutest Pet.” The contest is open to any type of pet, from parakeets to horses, goldfish to pythons.
