Anderson-Marmaduke Committee to meet tonight in Brocton

The Brad Anderson Recognition Committee will meet today at 6 p.m. at the Portland Town Hall, 87 W. Main St., Brocton.

The public is welcome to attend.

CSX repair work in Hanford Bay

set to begin today

Hanover Highway Supe-rintendent Steve D’Angelo reports that repair work will be done on the CSX tracks at Hanford Bay beginning this morning through Wednesday morning.

The intersection is scheduled to be closed during this time period.

Silver Creek Village Board special meeting Wednesday

The Silver Creek Village Board will hold a special meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the village hall.

The board will meet with Wendel to discuss the sewer improvement project, hear a presentation from Lake Shore Water Development and award the bid for Phase III of the waterline replacement project.

Angels for Hope community event set for Tuesday

The Relay for Life team Angels for Hope will hold a community event at Bob Evans in Fredonia on Tuesday from 6 a.m. to close.

Diners must have a flyer or this article in order for the team to receive 15 percent of the food bill, which will be donated to the Relay For Life cancer walk held in June at the Fredonia State Colllege.

Community members may also contact Bob Evans to have a lunch catered that day.

Lake Shore Savings offers home buyer seminar April 23

Lake Shore Savings will offer a home buyer seminar on April 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at its Fredonia branch location at 30 E. Main St.

There is no admission fee for this seminar, and participants will be eligible for a waiver of application fee for a six-month period.

Presenters include Patty Bertges, mortgage originator; Adam Dimitri, assistant vice president; Stephen Zanghi, attorney; and Alan Shaw, realtor.

They will discuss such topics as credit scores, mortgage pre-qualification, applying for mortgages, down payment requirements, closing costs and the available mortgage products and programs.

Petitions for Brocton Board of Education candidates due April 22

Petitions for candidates who wish to run for the board of education are available in the District Clerk’s office during regular working hours (7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.)

There are two at-large vacancies on the board, currently held by Susan Hardy and David Hazelton.

Petitions are due back to the District Clerk no later than April 22.

Forestville flushing waterlines this week

The village of Forestville is going to flush waterlines beginning Tuesday at 8 p.m. through Thursday. Residents should expect cloudy water.

The village urges residents to draw water that you may need before Tuesday.

Water customers are advised NOT to draw hot water between Tuesday at 8 p.m. and Thursday until the flushing has been completed.

Dunkirk PTO

addresses college this evening

Chris Dearth, the director of admissions at Fredonia State University, will present at the April Parent Teacher Organization meeting at Dunkirk High School. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be in the Dunkirk High School library today at 6 p.m.

Dearth will be addressing expectations and admission requirements at Fredonia State, as well as requirements for admission to college in general. He will also answer questions and concerns from college bound parents.

Laurie Whitermore of the DHS guidance office will also be on hand to address specific questions and concerns about Dunkirk High School students.

This meeting is a must if your student has college aspirations.

Brocton American Legion Post 434 Auxiliary meets Tuesday

The Brocton American Legion Auxiliary will have its monthly meeting Tues-day at 7 p.m. at the Brocton Legion, 110 W. Main St., Brocton.

Nominations of officers for next year will be discussed.

Members are urged to attend.

Silver Creek School Board petitions available

Deputy District Clerk Linda Borrello announces that petitions for Silver Creek Central School board candidates are available.

Petitions are available at the District Clerk’s office located in the District Office at 1 Dickinson St., Silver Creek.

Board vacancies for the 2013-2014 school year include one 5-year expired term currently held by Greg Cole and one unexpired 1-year term that was held by Amy Chavez who resigned.

Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the School District and must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the district. Petitions must be returned to Borrello no later than 5 p.m. on April 22.

The budget vote and election is scheduled to be held on May 21 from 1 to 9 p.m. in the High School Lobby.
