Peter W. Evans

Peter W. Evans, 75, of Dunkirk died Friday morning (April 12, 2013) at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio following a brief illness.

He was born June 24, 1937 in Buffalo, the son of the late Philip and Marion (Graves) Evans.

A resident of Dunkirk for most of his life, he was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1955.

Mr. Evans was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on board the USS Croaker as an electrical technician from 1955-1958, and was active in the Navy Reserves until 1968 reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

He was a retired engineer, employed by Simmers Crane in Salem, Ohio and attended Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church in Fredonia.

Survivors include his wife, Marilynn (Nichols) Heintzman Evans whom he married Nov. 26, 2004; two children, Eileen Case of Allentown, PA and John (Laurie) Evans of Stillwater, MN; three step children, Joyce (Daniel) Spear of Rochester, Pastor Brett (Barbara) Heintzman of Jamestown, and David Heintzman of Valparaiso, IN; six grandchildren, Patrick and Sean Case, and Melissa, Jacob, David, and Susan Evans; one step grandson, Jacob Dill; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Gracia Woelfle Evans who died Sept. 2000; two sons, David Evans and Thomas Evans; and one sister, Jeane Evans Steger.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o’clock in the Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church, 39 Matteson Street, Fredonia. Pastor Brett Heintzman will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
