Morales pitches Silver Creek to win

SILVER CREEK – Anthony Morales pitched a complete game two-hitter to lead the Silver Creek Black Knights (1-1, 3-3) past Salamanca (0-2, 0-2), 3-1, Wednesday in CCAA Division 2 high school baseball.

Morales struck out nine and walked four as his pitch count reached 102.

“He was in complete control the whole way,” Silver Creek coach Mike Janisch said. “His location on his fastball and slider (stood out). He kept the ball down and he made them swing at his pitch.”

After committing eight errors Monday, the Black Knights played a much better game defensively Wednesday with just two errors.

The Black Knights opened the scoring in the fourth inning as Adam Klajbor scored on a suicide squeeze by Josh Pfleuger and Jake Lewis scored on a fielder’s choice by Morales.

In the fifth inning, Nick Iskra reached on an error, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Klajbor.

Silver Creek returns to action today when it hosts Portville.

Cassadaga Valley 6, Randolph 5

SINCLAIRVILLE – Cassadaga Valley (1-3, 1-0) edged Randolph, 6-5, with an unearned run in the eighth inning for a CCAA Division 2 baseball win on Wednesday.

The error came on a Kenny Oakes’ grounder with two outs as Tim Bender scored the winning run.

Bender and Jordan Boughton finished with two singles while Dakota Morano had a double and three RBIs.

Morano also pitched the last two innings in relief and got the win. Oakes was the starting pitcher and went six inning.

For Randolph, Ryan Stile had two singles and Andrew Hyizbzak recorded a three-run home run.

The losing pitcher was Mitchell Maycock, who worked a complete game.
