North Collins, Ripley impressive in?Division 4 action

WEST VALLEY – The North Collins Lady Eagles erupted for 17 hits to handle West Valley, 21-1, Wednesday in CCAA Division 4 high school softball.

Jessica Lawton and Sam Gier shared pitching duties for the winners as they combined to throw a three-hitter.

“We did what we were supposed to do,” North Collins’ coach Jan Warren said. “We played good defense and didn’t make a lot of mistakes. That was nice to see because our defense has been shaky. It was a good win for us.”

Lawton led the offensive attack with three hits, two runs, a triple, a stolen base and two RBIs. Nicole Torrey added two hits and four runs scored while Christine Blidy had two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Ericka Bly had two hits, three runs and as many RBIs and Gier had three hits, one run and two RBIs.

Ripley 25, Sherman 3

RIPLEY – Emilee Steger tossed five innings, allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three as Ripley (3-0, 2-0) eased past Sherman, 25-3, in CCAA Division 4 softball action Wednesday.

After falling behind 2-0 after the top of the first, the Lady Eagles responded with a 5-run bottom of the first to take control of the game.

Ryleigh Hawkins and Sam Judd each had a pair of hits and three RBIs at the plate for Ripley while Steger helped her own cause with two hits and two RBIs.

Natalie Houle had three hits and an RBI to lead the Lady Wildcats at the plate.
