Westfield makes light work of Franklinville
WESTFIELD – The Westfield Wolverines (1-1, 1-2) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in knocking off Franklinville, 13-5, Wednesday in CCAA Division 3 high school baseball.
The Wolverines scored five runs in the fist inning, led by a Jon Coe’s three-run triple and seven more runs in the third as Dan Tofil belted a two-run double.
“We played fundamentally good baseball,” Westfield coach Doug Kaltenbach said. “They put the ball in play and made us field the ball.”
Tofil, Coe, Cameron Wright and Brandon Johnston each had two hits for the winners.
Westfield returns to action today at Cassadaga Valley.
Panama 13, Pine Valley 12
PANAMA – The second-, third- and fourth-place hitters excelled with nine hits, eight RBIs and eight runs scored as Panama (1-1, 2-2) edged Pine Valley (1-1, 2-1), 13-12.
Cleanup hitter Kelvin Eddy drove in five runs with two doubles and a three-run homer and scored three times.
No. 2 hitter Sawyer Eggleston had three hits, three runs scored and knocked in two runs while Alec Blose, batting third, also had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI single for Panama, which had 16 hits.
Kyle McIntyre contributed an RBI double in the third inning.
Eggleston was also the winning pitcher as he faced 43 batters in which he allowed seven hits, struck out 10 and walked six. He was hurt by five errors, but still managed to pick up the win.
Lucas Trombley singled twice and tallied three times for Pine Valley while Josh Kilburn added a three-run triple and finished with four RBIs in the loss.
