Fredonia notches 3rd league win

FREDONIA – A three-hit effort by Bre Dahn and a complete-game performance by pitcher Baylee Tarnowski pushed the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies (3-1, 4-1) past the Olean Lady Huskies, 7-3, Thursday in CCAA Division 1 softball action.

Tarnowski allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out two batters in seven innings of work.

“She hasn’t walked a girl all year,” Fredonia assistant coach Bob Sievert said. “She’s got 28 innings now and she hasn’t allowed a walk. She worked hard in the offseason and she’s hitting her spots. (Catcher Maddie) Crandall called a great game.”

The Lady Hillbillies opened the game’s scoring with a pair of runs in the first. A wild pitch by Olean pitcher Monica Moses allowed one run to score while a bases-loaded walk to Margaret White tallied another across home plate.

Fredonia added a pair in the second. Alicia Deering reached on a base hit and scored on a McKenna Leid knock. Dahn’s second hit of the afternoon plated Leid.

Dahn broke the game open with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth and gave Fredonia a 7-1 lead.

Crandall had two hits for Fredonia while Deering hit 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Morgan Genovese – called up from jayvee before the game – recorded two singles.

“Our league is real competitive this year and I don’t think anyone’s going to run away with it,” Sievert said.

Moses was the losing pitcher for the Lady Huskies. She allowed four runs on three hits, walked three and struck out three in an inning and two-thirds of work. Moses left the game after taking a line drive to the arm and was replaced by Emily Russell for the final four-and-a-third innings. Russell allowed four runs on six hits, struck out three and walked two.

Catee Anastasia led Olean at the plate with two hits and a RBI.

Fredonia begins play in the Silver Creek Hae-Jude Tournament against Chautauqua Lake today.
