Dunkirk gets win over Falconer

For the first time in recent memory, the Dunkirk Marauders (1-3) defeated Falconer, 4-1, Monday in CCAA Division 1 boys high school tennis.

The win was the first for the Marauders this season.

At second singles, Lucas Julian blanked Stephen Kanicki, 6-0, 6-0. In third singles, Garrett Knappke edged Justin Gilbert, 6-3, 7-6.

In second doubles, Duke Medema and Connor Aitchenson handled Lucas Young and Steven Potts, 6-1, 6-3.

“It’s the first year playing for Duke and Connor,” Dunkirk coach Greg Catalano said. “They played really well. Garrett and Lucas have never played singles before so it was a nice win for them.”

Jamestown 3, Fredonia 2

JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Red Raiders (2-1) slipped past Fredonia (2-2), 3-2.

The Hillbillies received a win at third singles as Nick Johnston downed Liam Kulakowski, 6-4, 6-0. At first singles, Fredonia’s Aidan Lang and Tyler Cassidy defeated Joe Scotchmer and Abu Latif, 6-2, 6-2.

“We came very close to Jamestown and just lost,” Fredonia coach Lisa Johnston said. “I am very proud of the team for their efforts. Nick Johnston had a great win moving the ball well around the court and coming to the net on short balls. Tyler and Aidan had a great doubles win. They have won 3 of their 4 matches this season.”

Fredonia takes on Southwestern today.
