Laurie shines on the mound in?Brocton win
BROCTON – Scot Laurie pitched a complete game for Brocton as the Bulldogs (3-1, 3-3) produced a 10-2 victory over North Collins (4-1) in CCAA Division 4 baseball on Tuesday.
Laurie struck out 11 batters and walked just two while scattering five hits in the victory for Brocton (3-1, 3-3) and helped his own cause with a double.
“Scot was in control and kept them off balance,” Brocton coach Terry Presto said. “It’s nice to get 11 strikeouts and only two walks. That was a big plus.”
The Bulldogs scored four times in the second inning, thanks to a two-run single by Jordan Patterson, Nash Delcamp added a double and an RBI and scored on Daulton Remington’s hit.
“Daulton is a sophomore,” Presto noted. “He came up during the playoffs last year. We knew he was a good ballplayer.”
Patterson also collected RBI doubles in the fourth and fifth, giving him four overall, Remington contributed three hits and an RBI.
Jaden Keough led North Collins with a double and a single and Jordan Keough drilled a double and had one RBI.
Westfield 13, Panama 1
WESTFIELD – Nolan Hunt and Brandon Johnson combined on a two-hitter Tuesday, as Westfield (4-1, 2-1) took care of Panama, 13-1, in CCAA Division 3 baseball action.
“They were just on (Tuesday),” Westfield head coach Doug Kaltenbach said. “They were throwing hard, they were throwing a lot of off-speed stuff and they were pitching like they were having a lot of fun out there (Tuesday).”
Hunt and Johnson struck out a combined 10 and issued just one walk while the Wolverines’ offense came alive, pounding out 17 hits and taking advantage of five Panther errors.
Westfield scored three runs in the bottom of the first – highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Hunt – and eight runs in the home half of the second to blow the game open. Travis Rammelt and Robbie Burgess chipped in a three-run double and two-run single, respectively, in the inning, as the Wolverines took an 11-0 lead.
Johnson, Rammelt (three RBIs), Hunt (two RBIs), Cam Wright (two RBIs), Burgess (two RBIs) and Joe Quagliana (two RBIs) all had two hits on the afternoon for Westfield.
For Panama, Kyle McIntyre suffered the loss, allowing 12 runs while striking out three and walking two. McIntyre added one of the Panthers’ two hits while Sawyer Eggleston picked up the other.
Lake Shore 7, Springville 5
SPRINGVILLE – Tyler Mascio’s RBI triple in the seventh inning lifted the Lake Shore Eagles (4-0, 5-2) past Springville (1-3), 7-5, Tuesday in ECIC Division 3 high school baseball.
Trailing 5-3 in the sixth inning, Jim Barry belted a two-run double to tie the game. In the seventh, Mascio drove in the go-ahead run and Christ Conley doubled to score Mascio for an insurance run and the win.
Frewsburg 11, Pine Valley 7
FREWSBURG – Pine Valley and Frewsburg went back and forth on Tuesday in a non-league baseball battle, but the Bears (4-5) broke a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the sixth to post an 11-7 victory.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but Frewsburg kept plugging away and held a 7-6 lead in the fourth. Pine Valley tied the game again in the fifth, but the Bears scored four in the sixth to preserve the win.
Dane Johnson relieved started Pat Caldwell in the fourth for the Bears and gave up just one hit, four walks and a run while striking out four. He also doubled and singled.
Offensively, Frewsburg had 14 hits as Bryce Peterson slammed a double and a triple, Tage Johnson had three hits and four RBIs, Trevor Spicer added two hits and Caldwell contributed three hits.
Thomas Raiport went five innings for Pine Valley with three strikeouts and five walks. He also had two hits and Lucas Trombley produced three RBIs.
