Anthony C. Zafuto

Anthony Charles Zafuto, age 90, of Silver Creek, N.Y. died Monday April 22, 2013 at the Lake Shore Nursing Home in Irving, N.Y.

He was born March 13, 1923 in Silver Creek to the late Frank and Angeline Mondo Zafuto.

Mr. Zafuto attended Silver Creek Schools and graduated from Silver Creek High School. A United States Navy Veteran, he served in World War II and the Korean War. He was Past Commander of the Silver Creek VFW Samuel Cimino Post #6472 and the Chautauqua County VFW. An avid sportsman, he especially enjoyed golf and fishing.

Mr. Zafuto retired from Guarcello’s Plumbing in Silver Creek.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Swackhamer) Zafuto; his children, Dan (Denise) Zafuto, Gary (Noriko) Zafuto, Helen Kosowski, Diana (Mark) Staples, Deborah (Wallace) Owens, Philip (“Midget”) Mahle, David Mahle, Donald (Laura) Zafuto, and Mark Zafuto (Dawn). Also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Dolores) Zafuto; sisters-in-law Lillian Breen, who resides at St. Columban’s Retirement Home and Lori Swackhamer (late Bud); and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Mr. Zafuto was predeceased by his brother, Samuel (Leona) Zafuto.

Calls may be made Thurs-day 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave-nue, Silver Creek, NY, where prayers will be offered Friday morning at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10 a.m. Military Honors at the Church will follow the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Silver Creek EMS, c/o the Silver Creek Vol. Fire Dept., 172 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY 14136.
