Bits ‘n’ Spurs Trailriders getting ready to hit the trails

Bits ‘n’ Spurs Trail Riders are brushing their horses and getting them ready for the trails hoping the warmer temperatures and sunshine will melt the snow and help dry up the mud. Members are ready to switch from their snowmobiles, skis and snowshoes and head out on the trails on their horses.

Their trail riding schedule for this year has been set and will be from April to November. Some places that rides are going to be held are Cockaigne, Meadows Road, Ruttenbur Road as well as Allegany State Park and the Pine Hill/South Valley trail system. Some rides will include overnight camping. Guests are welcome with a fee to cover insurance for the day.

This is a local horse club founded in 1994 by a small group of enthusiastic trail riders in the Forestville area. Since then its membership has grown to include other parts of Chautauqua County and beyond. Riders of all levels of experience are welcome. Rides are at a walk and last from two to four hours. The longer rides include a lunch break and the group always has a dish to pass supper after the ride.

The group usually has a monthly meeting either at a member’s house or after the ride. New members are always welcome; you can be an individual member or join as a family. Some of our other activities are helping develop and maintain the Eastern Equestrian Trails, the Pine Hill/South Valley trails and the trails at Allegany State Park. Members often get together to attend a variety of other horse-related events.
