Interim CEO named for Lake Erie Health System
In a statement made to employees Wednesday morning, the Board of Trustees of Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York announced the appointment of J. Gary Rhodes, FACHE as interim chief executive officer for the organization.
Rhodes will be assisting with LERHSNY’s transition until a permanent CEO is appointed. He currently presides as the CEO of Kane Community Hospital and a vice president of UPMC Hamot, an affiliate of the Kane hospital.
Rhodes’ experience includes responsibility for Kane’s 230 employees and affiliated physicians who provide high-quality, leading-edge care. He has opened four regional clinics up to 28 miles from Kane, Pa., and converted five hospital primary care practices to hospital-based community clinics in Kane, Mt. Jewett, Sheffield, Johnsonburg, and Ridgeway, Pa.
Under his direction, in 1999, Kane Community Hospital forged its first agreement with Hamot in the field of cardiology. This partnership advanced and the organizations formally integrated in 2009.
“Rhodes continues to develop comprehensive strategies to enhance the growth and range of services available to patients in the Kane region,” stated LERHSNY Board Chair Christopher Lanski, “and we are certain he will now bring these same attributes to assist the Lake Erie Regional Health System.”
LERHSNY’s leadership team and Board of Trustees also expressed confidence in this provisional addition in helping to continue their mission to offer their patients high-quality health care.
Rhodes is taking over for Jonathan Lawrence, who previously served as the CEO when the Lake Erie Health System was formed in 2008. LERHSNY’s facilities include Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving, and the various outpatient facilities of TLC Health Network.
