Additional fire departments in Chautauqua County recruiting

Three more fire departments have been added to the list of Chautauqua County departments recruiting this weekend. A list of recruitments ran in Wednesday’s OBSERVER.

Hanover Center Fire Department, 11919 Hanover Road, 934-7389; Irving Fire Department, 12847 Erie Street, Irving, 934-4639, and Lily Dale 17 East St, Lily Dale, 789-3725 will also be holding open houses. All three recruitments are today. Dan Imfeld, Chautauqua County Deputy Fire Coordinator, provided the latest update.

Information about local departments and the times they listed for recruitment can be found at, which is sponsored by the Firemen’s Association of New York.

Imfeld also encouraged those with questions to call the Chautauqua County Office at 753-4341.

Forestville kindergarten roundup Wednesday

Kindergarten Roundup will be held at Forestville Elementary School on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the gymnasium. Packets have been sent out. If community members in the school district have not received a packet and have a child who will be five years old by Dec. 1, 2013, they should call the elementary office at 965-2742 as soon as possible.

Brocton dog laws reminder

Village of Brocton Mayor David L. Hazelton reminds all village residents the Dog Control Law requires all dogs to be leashed and encourages residents to contact Dog Control Officer Clarence Grover at 792-9655 if they observe dogs running at large.

A copy of the Local Law can be viewed at the Village Office during regular business hours. Mayor Hazelton noted the number of complaints has increased with the warmer weather and encourages residents to assist the Village to enforce the law.

FHS 1978 reunion meeting set

The Fredonia High School Class of 1978 Reunion Planning Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the conference room of Mike Sullivan’s law office at 7 E. Main St. in Fredonia.

Attendees should bring their ideas and thoughts regarding the final planning stages for the reunion planned for July 26 and July 27. For more information, contact fellow classmates Mike Sullivan, Karen (Civiletto) Barnett or Janice (Barrus) Gee.

Fredonia brush collection to begin Monday

The first monthly brush and yard waste pickup for the village of Fredonia will begin on Monday and will run until completion. Crews will make one pass only through the village.

For all village streets, residents should have bundled brush, limbs and bagged yard waste at the curb no later than 7 a.m. Monday. All yard waste must be bagged and all limbs and brush must be tied with twine. Limbs and brush must be cut no longer than 4 feet in length with bundles being no larger than 18 inches in diameter. Bundles and bags are limited to 65 pounds in weight.

There will be no loose leaf collection. Residents may also bring brush, limbs and yard waste to the Village DPW yard at 176 Eagle St. at any time. The next scheduled collection will begin on May 20 at 7 a.m.
