Jamestown police investigating stabbing

JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Police Department and New York state police responded to an altercation in the area of 627 E. Second St. near the Appleyard Terrace apartments this afternoon that resulted in a stabbing.

“The report came in that we had an altercation here involving a number of suspects,” said detective Lt. Paul Abbott.

According to Abbott, sometime during the altercation one of the persons involved either obtained or had a knife and stabbed one of the other male subjects involved. Following the incident, the parties involved in the altercation then fled the area.

“We’re just gathering evidence right now – we have a gentleman at the hospital that we’re interviewing, and we’re still looking for other witnesses and the subject in question,” said Abbott. “It sounds like it was probably anywhere from three to five people involved in the altercation, and this wasn’t a random act. It appears that this was the continuation of an ongoing altercation between these people.”

Friday evening police updated the status of the victim, noting surgery for a stab wound was completed and that the injury was not life-threatening.
