CLCS wins pair of games at Hae Jude tourney
SILVER CREEK – Chautauqua Lake won a pair of games Saturday in the Hae Jude Softball Tournament, held at Silver Creek High School.
In its first game, Chautauqua Lake defeated host Silver Creek, 15-6, as Lauren Cummings and Jade Walsh combined for the win.
Cummings led the Lady Thunderbirds at the plate as well, collecting three hits, including a double, triple and three RBIs. Ashley Moulton (two RBIs) and Luci Sena had three hits each in the win while Courtney Hewes added a pair of hits and as many RBIs. Jessie Herrington added a home run and two RBIs.
In their second game, the Lady Thunderbirds dropped Salamanca, 7-6.
Up 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Chautauqua Lake saw its lead disappear, as Salamanca scored five runs to take a 6-4 advantage. Then, in the top of the sixth, Sena was hit by a pitch, and stole second. Moulton then reached third on an error, chasing Sena home in the process to cut the Lady Warriors’ lead to 6-5. Cummings followed with a run-scoring single to tie the game, before Hewes doubled to put runners at second and third for Hannah Rauh, who connected on what turned out to be the game-winning hit. Cummings scored on the play.
Cummings picked up the win, allowing a hit while striking out two over the game’s final three innings.
Moulton, Emily Corwin and Hewes all finished with two hits in the win.
