Best in the state
The New York State Sportswriters Association announced its boys’ basketball All-State teams recently. Three Silver Creek players were honored in Class C.
Black Knight senior guard Zeddie Williams was named to the First Team while fellow senior guard Stephen Marcey was named to the Sixth Team. Sophomore center Billy Brooks was named to the Eighth Team.
For Williams, it was his second All-State selection of his senior year, as he was named to the Class D football First Team. He will shoot for a third All-State selection in lacrosse, which he has starred at since he began his varsity career in eighth grade. He will attend the University of Virginia on a full scholarship to play NCAA Division I lacrosse.
Silver Creek teammate Kaine Kettle, a junior, was named as an Honorable Mention selection while in Class D, Brocton teammates Jordan Patterson and Dan Ferguson, both seniors, were named to the Honorable Mention team.
In all, 44 players from Section 6 and Western New York catholic and private schools were named to NYSSWA All-State teams, including CCAA?representatives Wil Bathurst (First Team, Class B), Sam Eckstrom (Second Team, Class B), Nick Schmidt (Sixth Team, Class B) and Max Portlow (Honorable Mention, Class B) of Olean. Portville’s Zach Blask earned a spot on Class C’s Fourth Team while Maple Grove’s Will Soffel and Aaron Germain made Honorable Mention.
In Class D, Clymer’s Dan Lictus earned a spot on the Third Team, Sherman’s Andrew Graham was named to the Fifth Team. Graham’s teammate, Ryan Robson, was an Honorable Mention selection, along with North Collins’ Jared Keppel.
