Schumer to attend County Democratic dinner Thursday

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer will attend the Chautauqua County Democratic dinner Thursday.

The announcement was made by Democratic Chairman Norman P. Green.

The dinner will take place at the historic Gateway Train Station, 212 W. Second St., Jamestown.

At the dinner Dunkirk City Democratic Chairman Frank Gawronski will be saluted as County Democrat of the Year.

The dinner will also salute the revitalization of Jamestown during the years of Mayor Sam Teresi’s tenure and a historic look at the way we were.

Red Cross Chapter responds to help house fire victims in Brocton

The Southwestern NY American Red Cross Disaster Action Team responded to provide disaster relief following a house fire on Friday in Brocton.

Volunteer Charlie Meeder provided assistance in Brocton.

The local Red Cross chapter will continue working with the families and their recovery process if additional services or referrals are necessary.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host

informational session

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on its campus at 8115 Glasgow Road, Cassadaga on Thursday at 10 a.m.

The Corps provides training to begin a career in the healthcare and construction industries plus GED classes to those in need of a diploma. Training in Certified Nurse Aide, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing and Electrical are available as is the Advanced Training for Licensed Practical Nurse. The Academy will accept young adults, age 16-24, who are committed to a rigorous education and training program that are prepared to launch a career.

Reed’s staff to visit Fredonia Wednesday

Congressman Tom Reed’s staff will hold office hours in Fredonia Wednesday from 1- 3:30 p.m. at the Fredonia Village Hall.

Reed’s staff will be in the Trustee’s Room on the 2nd floor of the Fredonia Village Hall, 9 Church St., to answer any questions and gather feedback and concerns from constituents.

The new 23rd Congress-ional District includes the counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Che-mung, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates.

21 East Bookstore to hold used book sale

The Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County welcomes the public to attend a used book sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 21 East Bookstore to help them in their work to promote literacy. Books will be 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardcovers, unless they are marked otherwise. The bookstore is located at 21 E. Second St. and Washington Avenue in Dunkirk.
