Lady Cougars can’t stop perfect Bears

SINCLAIRVILLE – The Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars had a dismal day in the field Monday in falling to the Frewsburg Bears, 19-2, in CCAA Division 2 high school softball.

“Looking back at my scorebook, we committed six errors and that led to 17 runs,” Cassadaga Valley coach Ken Balling said. “We should have been out of the inning a lot of times but gave them extra chances. You can’t give a team like Frewsburg extra chances. They are too good and take advantage of that.

Not helping the Lady Cougars was the fact Frewsburg pitcher Sam Mott was fantastic in the circle as she yielded just one hit in six innings of work while striking out 15. Alanna Blanchard pitched the final inning for the winners and struck out the side.

Kelcie Brown was the lone bright spot for Cassadaga Valley as she had a solo home run.

The Cardinals added two more in the bottom of the fifth when a Sierra Farmer single scored Finch. Finch later scored on a double steal attempt.

Finch and Luce led Randolph with two hits each. Klinger went the distance in the circle and struck out seven.

Cummings earned the loss for Silver Creek after she allowed seven hits and struck out three.

The Black Knights travel to Salamanca Friday.
