Devils take two from Hawks

HAMBURG – The Fredonia State baseball team took a pair of game from the Hilbert Hawks, 17-3 and 8-4, on Tuesday afternoon. The wins put the Devils at 18-14 overall.

Freshman Carl Wolf earned the win in game one, allowing three runs – all in one swing, a Chris Hoak three-run home run – over five innings of work. Wolf struck out four and allowed four hits.

Hilbert held a three-run lead until the fifth, when the Devils tacked on five runs. They added four in the sixth and six more in the seventh.

Conner Lorenzo, John Bennett and Jake Nowak had three hits apiece to pace the offense. Lorenzo also scored four times.

Joey Tingue (Pine Valley) pitched a scoreless sixth and Zachary Jordon finished the seventh with a one-two-three inning.

Game 2 saw starting pitcher Kyle Morse work three innings allowing three unearned runs in earning the win.

Freshman Quinn Danahy had three hits in his first collegiate start. Lorenzo and Nowak each added two more hits. Dillon Lowe, Matt Casilio and Erik Krohl also had two hits apiece.

Next up for the Devils is the SUNYAC Tournament. They are slated to play host Cortland at noon on Friday.
