Pitching keys Westfield win once again

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Wolverines (5-1, 7-1) received another strong pitching performance in a 12-2 victory over Brocton on Wednesday in non-league high school baseball action.

This time the pitching gem was hurled by Brandon Johnston as he went six innings as he struck out six and walked just two.

“Our pitching has been really good,” Westfield coach Doug Kaltenbach said.

The Wolverines broke the game open in the fourth inning with a four-run frame as Cam Wright and Rob Burgess each singled. Brandon Wright and Travis Rammelt followed with RBI hits.

Burgess, Dan Tofil and Wright had two hits each.

Brocton’s Latham Dunn went 2 for 3 in a losing effort.

The Wolverines return to action today at Pine Valley as they try to avenge their only loss of the season.

Lake Shore 17, Cheektowaga 2

ANGOLA – Tyler Mascio and Tyler Freeman each had four hits as the Lake Shore Eagles (8-0) put all phases of the game together in a 17-2 stomping of Cheektowaga in ECIC Division 3 high school baseball.

Mascio finished with four RBIs and Freeman drove in two runs. Dane Cala contributed with three hits and two RBIs. Christ Conley also had two hits and three RBIs for the Eagles.

Ryan Joslyn was the winning pitcher as he allowed one earned run, two strikeouts and three hits.

Lake Shore will play East Aurora (5-2) on Friday.
