Twenty years ago – 1993

Jennifer O’Boyle has been selected as the new “Student of the Week” at Dunkirk High School. A senior honor student, she is editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, The Citizen, as well as executive producer of the award winning show, “High School Highlights” broadcast by WDOE. She is an active member of the school’s mixed choir, participating in vocal competitions at the Chautauqua County Music Festival for the past five years. The daughter of Michael and Janey O’Boyle, Jennifer intends to pursue a law degree following graduation.

Thirty years ago – 1983

The new artificial ice rink at Fredonia State University College opened April 8 with free public skating. The rink will be open for free public skating for the next two weeks.

Forty years ago – 1973

John B. Fedyszyn was elected commander of the John T. Murray VFW Post 1017 during a meeting at the Deer Street clubrooms. Mr. Fedyszyn is employed with the Iroquois Gas Corp. and resides in Dunkirk.

Fifty years ago – 1963

The Dunkirk Rotary Club honored Malcolm C. Reed at the annual Recognition Night dinner meeting held at Rusch’s Restaurant. He was cited for outstanding community service and 16 years’ membership in the group.
