Twenty years ago – 1993

Monte Gens recently opened Monte’s Small Engine Repair Service at 3405 South Roberts Road, Sheridan. Although he will be offering complete lawn and garden equipment service, he will specialize in engine repair. Monte, who opened his new business with co-owner and wife, Jane Gens, formerly was associated with Pagano Tractor. Jane is also employed as a school teacher.

Thirty years ago – 1983

Two persons were killed and two others injured yesterday in a quarter-mile path of a tornado which set down near Chautauqua Institution on Chautauqua Lake. A woman was killed and her husband hospitalized when the tornado hurled her car against a fence near her home at Chautauqua Shores. The tornado tore the garage off its foundation just after the couple pulled in, and the car was thrown 75 feet. Another woman living in a trailer home was killed when the trailer exploded from the force of the storm’s pressure.

Forty years ago – 1973

Some 300 persons were on hand at Rusch’s Restaurant in Dunkirk for a testimonial dinner honoring former Silver Creek Mayor James DeJohn and former Village Trustee Farnsworth Bebee.

Fifty years ago – 1963

Mrs. Jean Kusneske Currie was hostess for a committee meeting to plan a 25th anniversary reunion of members from Fredonia High School’s Class of 1938. Currently a dinner is planned for July at the White Inn.
