Fredonia dropped rival Dunkirk (1-8), 4-1, during CCAA Division 1 boys tennis action on Friday at Dunkirk High School.

After Dunkirk’s Josh Berakah defeated Fredonia’s Jacob Thompson, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, in first singles, the Hillbillies took the next four matches.

Nick Johnston defeated Garrett Knappke in second singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Aidan Lang dropped Lucas Julian 6-2, 6-7, 6-1, in third singles.

In the doubles matches, the Hillbillies’ Tyler Cassidy and Mike Johnson won a 6-3, 6-0, decision over Connor Aitchenson and Mick Willis while Eric Jabot and Kyle Leysath topped Brian Palacios and Teddy Cheverez, 6-0, 6-0.

“Our doubles teams were just over matched,” Dunkirk head coach Greg Catalano said. “We had great matches though in first and third singles. The younger guys didn’t fare well, but they’re still learning.”
