Registration Monday for annual Dunkirk School vote

The Dunkirk Board of Registration will meet Monday from noon to 7 p.m. in the administration building, 620 Marauder Dr. The purpose of the meeting is to register all persons who wish to become qualified voters of the Dunkirk School District.

To register to vote in the upcoming annual District Budget Vote and the election of a board of education member, a person must be a citizen of the U.S., 18 years of age and a legal resident of the school district for 30 days. Proof of this information is required (i.e. valid driver’s license, copy of a utility bill, etc.). A person does not have to he a homeowner to vote.

Residents must be registered by May 21 to be a qualified voter in this year’s budget vote/school board election.

Chautauqua Music Camps accepting applicants

The Chautauqua Music Camps is now accepting applications for 2013. The camp takes place Aug. 12-17 at Chautauqua Institution. There is a middle school band, advanced middle school/high school orchestra, and high school jazz ensemble. All information, including a downloadable application may be obtained at chautauquamusiccamps.org.

Dunkirk Fire Dept. monthly report

The Dunkirk Fire Department reports going on 148 runs in April. Of that number, 115 were EMS calls with 50 of those resulting in transports to Brooks Memorial Hospital. There were 14 still alarms, 14 box alarms and five mutual aid calls answered by the department, according to figures from Fire Chief Keith Ahlstrom.

Registration under way for JCC summer courses

Jamestown Community College is offering day and evening courses as well as internship and online learning opportunities this summer.

Six-week sessions will be conducted May 20-July 1 and July 8-Aug. 15 at JCC’s Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses and North County and Warren centers. In-person registration will be conducted until May 17 for Summer Session I and until July 5 for Summer Session II. Online course registration, as well as a complete listing of courses, is available at www.sunyjcc.edu/summer.

Fredonia cleanup set for Sunday

Fredonia for St. Jude, a non-profit group on the SUNY Fredonia campus, will be walking around the village Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. collecting returnable cans and bottles to raise money for the children of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. The event helps clean up after Fred Fest Festivities to keep Fredonia looking beautiful. Local Chambers to host wine festival

The Grape Expectations Wine Festival hosted by the Fredonia/Dunkirk Chambers of Commerce will be held at The White Inn on May 17 from 5-9 p.m. Cost is $12 for pre-registration by calling 679-1565 or $15 at the door.

You will receive a free wine glass when you arrive. Light appetizers are included in the price of the ticket this year.
