Maple Grove tops CLCS in Division 3

MAYVILLE – The Maple Grove Red Dragons (7-1, 1-7) pounded the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds (1-6, 1-7), 18-1, Saturday in CCAA Division 3 high school baseball action.

Maple Grove broke open the game with a five-run fourth inning, led by an Aaron Germain three-run double. Jake Swan went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a triple to lead the Red Dragons at the plate while Germain went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI. Jonah Tanner had a 2-for-3 afternoon with a double to support the offensive attack.

Matt Roach earned the win on the mound, struck out four and surrendered no walks.

Kyle Mayer was credited with the loss for Chautauqua Lake. Ryan Linnecke went 2 for 3 while Tyler Furlow added a double in a losing effort for the Thunderbirds.

Chautauqua Lake returns to action Monday against Pine Valley.

CCAA Division 4

Ripley 2, Sherman 1

Ripley 1, Ellicottville 0

SHERMAN – The Ripley Eagles (6-2, 6-3) received a strong pitching performance from Trevor Enterline in defeating the Sherman Wildcats, 2-1, Friday in CCAA Division 4 high school baseball.

Enterline went the distance and only allowed two walks and as many hits while striking out eight.

Devin Pope provided the offense as his RBI double plated Michael Lisek for the game-winning run.

Enterline helped his own cause with an RBI single to score Eric Horstman earlier in the game.

On Thursday, Logan Miller provided the pitching as he fanned 10 and walked just one while scattering just four hits in a 1-0 win over Ellicottville.

At the plate, he went 2 for 4 while Cody Sargent had two doubles.

The team only committed one error in the game.

“They really pulled through,” Ripley coach Ken Rowe said. “Logan missed last year and is getting his strength and accuracy back. He has one of best curveballs I have seen.”
