Silver Creek Clerk Office has extended Wednesday hours

The Silver Creek Village Clerk’s Office will be open one hour later on Wednes-days for residents’ convenience. New hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays.

The clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thurs-days and Fridays. For questions call 934-3240.

Attic and Seller Days June 7-9

It is time to remove clutter from your surroundings and create a new look. What a better way than a 20 Miles of Attic and Seller Days, June 7-9.

You may sign up at these locations: Fredonia Cham-ber of Commerce office, 25 Day St., Fredonia and the Book Nook, Dunkirk/Fre-donia Plaza.

The fee is $5 and you receive a listing on the map and two posters for your sale. You may list five specific items of interest for an additional $1, with a limit of 25 items. The deadline is May 31. Late registration is $7 with no guarantee of map listing

Letter carriers to hold annual food drive

in Dunkirk Saturday

On Saturday, City of Dunkirk Letter Carriers will again participate in a nationally acclaimed food drive. Place non-perishable food items in bags and leave them by the mailbox. Letter carriers will pick them up as they deliver the day’s mail. All items collected go directly to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish to feed the hungry in the community, so donations stay local. All donations are appreciated.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host

informational session

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on its campus at 8115 Glasgow Road, Cassadaga on Thursday at 10 a.m. The Corps provides training to begin a career in the healthcare and construction industries and GED classes to those in need of a diploma.

Training in certified nurse aide, carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical are available as well as the advanced training for licensed practical nurse. The Academy will accept young adults, age 16-24, who are committed to a rigorous education and training program and are prepared to launch a career. Applicants can apply for on-center living or off center living, and all applicants will enroll on a full federal scholarship if accepted. Fredonia Cable Access committee meets Thursday evening

On Thursday at 7 p.m., the Fredonia Cable Access committee (Fredonia Time Warner channels 5 and 17) will discuss the final version the Cable Access contract, which expired in April 2013, along with new programming .

John Hamels to appear on Senior Report

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have John Hamels as the guest on the May 11th television program. Hamels will discuss the Masons.

The live, call-in program airs from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Saturday morning. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out.

The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities. Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change.

Senior Report is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cas-sadaga, Chautauqua, Fredo-nia, Mayville, North Har-mony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forest-ville, Hanover, Irving, James-town, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.

‘Dialogues’ to appear on Access Channel 5

“Dialogues” is the name of a half-hour television program produced by Mark Kiyak from SUNY Fredonia. Hosted by Tina Zboch, the program will feature guest John Hertlein. Hertlein served the Silver Creek School district for the past 18 years as high school principal and is now the superintendent of Brocton Central School.

The program will air on Access Channel 5 at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. each day beginning on May 11 with the last airing on May 17.

Access Channel 5 is available to cable viewers in the Mayville, Chautauqua, North Harmony, Sherman, Westfield and Portland areas.

Valu Home Centers

to hold Community Event Day Saturday

On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Valu Home Centers will hold a Com-munity Event Day. A local organization will be selling hot dogs and pop for a minimal donation. Other activities will also be included during the day.

Last year, more than $22,000 was raised chain wide to benefit various charitable organizations throughout Western and Central New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Lakeshore Humane Society Pet Adoption Day/Open House set

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a Pet Adoption Day/Open House at its Adoption Center Saturday from noon to 4 p.m at 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk.

Potential adopters are invited to come see the facility and meet some of the dogs and cats who need caring homes.
