Fredonia uses ‘solid team win’ to knock off Dunkirk, 5-0

The Fredonia Hillbillies (6-5) swept the Dunkirk Marauders, 5-0, Monday in CCAA Division 1 boys high school tennis action.

Fredonia’s Nick Johnston shut out Josh Berakah in first singles, 6-0, 6-0 while Jacob Thompson defeated Garrett Knappke in second singles, 6-3, 6-0. In third singles, the Hillbillies’ Aidan Lang downed the Marauders’ Lucas Julian, 6-4, 6-0.

“We had a solid team win,” Fredonia coach Lisa Johnston said. “I’m proud of a team that’s come so far.”

Tyler Cassidy and John Cole of Fredonia beat Connor Aitchenson and Duke Medema in first doubles, 6-0, 6-1 while the Hillbillies’ Kyle Layseth and Eric Jabot downed Bryan Palacios and Teddy Cheverez, 6-0, 6-1.
