Brocton earns another league win

SHERMAN – It was all Brocton on Monday as the Lady Bulldogs rolled to an 18-2 victory over host Sherman in CCAA Division 4 softball.

The star of the day was Jessica Merle, who gave up just three hits in five innings with 10 strikeouts and four walks. She led the offense with five hits while teammate Jess Putcher added three hits.

Sam Delcamp also pitched five innings with four strikeouts and five walks in getting the loss.

North Collins 4, Ellicottville 1

ELLICOTTVILLE – The North Collins Lady Eagles (7-1, 9-2) downed the Ellicottville Lady Eagles, 4-1, Monday in CCAA Division 4 high school softball action.

Jessica Lawton earned the win after a complete-game effort in which she allowed one run on five hits, struck out eight batters and surrendered one walk. She also joined Jenna Keppel as one of two North Collins players with two hits.

North Collins touched up Ellicottville hurler Courtney Antholzier for a pair of runs in the third. Beth Kibler and Christine Blidy both drew walks and moved a base on a passed ball. Kylie Mathis brought both of them home on a two-run base hit.

The visiting team added a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Kibler brought home Ericka Bly with a single in the fourth while Keppel plated Lawson with a one-bagger in the fifth.

“We only had one error in the game so we played solid defensively,” North Collins coach Jan Warren said.

North Collins travels to Ripley today.

Division 3

Forestville 5, Westfield 0

WESTFIELD – Ryanne Dugan once again proved dominant as the Forestville Lady Hornets (5-1, 7-1) shut out the Westfield Lady Wolverines (3-5, 3-8), 5-0, in CCAA Division 3 softball action Monday.

Dugan threw a complete-game two-hitter, struck out 15 batters and surrendered no walks.

The Hornets plated two in the third inning as Emily Markham and Dugan both reached on singles. Alisha Szumigala knocked home Markham on an RBI single while Dugan crossed home on a wild pitch by Westfield pitcher Laura Tofil.

Forestville scored another pair in the fourth, one of them via an Emily Gilman grounder.

Tofil went three innings in defeat for Westfield and allowed two runs, struck out three and walked one. She left the game after the third inning due to taking a ball off her wrist.

Carson Hauser finished the game for the Wolverines. Savannah Rowen and Olivia Knapp were the only Westfield batters to record hits and Knapp was the only base runner to move to second after a Forestville fielding error.

The two teams play again in Forestville today.

Chautauqua Lake 17, Pine Valley 3

MAYVILLE – Lauren Cummings pitched five innings of no-hit ball and Ashley Moulton hit a grand slam home run in leading the Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds (5-3, 8-3) to a 17-3 victory over Pine Valley on Monday in CCAA Division 3 high school softball.

Chautauqua Lake pounded out 19 hits. It scored eight runs in the second on seven hits.

Hannah Rauh was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI while Jade Walsh was also 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Jessie Herrington stroked three singles and Luci Sena had two hits with a double and two RBIs. Moulton also had a double while Cummings had two hits with a double and an RBI.
