Fredonia downs Jamestown for first time in 10 years

For just the first time in 10 years the Fredonia (7-5) boys’ tennis team earned a win over CCAA Division 1 foe Jamestown (5-5), as it won 4-1 on Tuesday.

Nick Johnston got the Hillbillies going with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Zach Eklum.

“This was a fantastic win for our team,” Fredonia coach Lisa Johnston said. “(Nick) Johnston played a strong, strategic match and beat the County champion from last year.”

After Bob Rew defeated Fredonia’s Jacob Thompson, 6-4, 6-2, in second singles, it was all Hillbillies the rest of the way.

Aidan Lang beat Liam Kulakowski, 6-2, 6-4, in third singles, John Cole and Tyler Cassidy dropped Joe Scotchmer and Cameron Weaver, 6-0, 6-1, in first doubles and Mike Johnson and Kyle Leysath beat Josh Anderson and Jacob Johnson, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

“Aidan Lang played a great singles match,” Lisa Johnston said. “And both doubles (teams) had excellent wins. This team has far exceeded my expectations.”

Dunkirk 3, Falconer 2

FALCONER – Dunkirk (2-8) won just its second boys’ tennis match Tuesday after defeating CCAA Division 1 foe Falconer, 3-2.

“It was a fabulous match,” Dunkirk coach Greg Catalano said. “The first doubles match went three hours and they were all really good matches the whole way through.”

The Marauders dropped the first two singles matches as the Golden Falcons’ Cooper Miller defeated Josh Berakah, 6-0, 6-0, in first singles and Nathan Sanders beat Lucas Julian, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, in second singles. Dunkirk won the final three matches for the win.

Garrett Knappke beat Stephan Kanecki, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6, in third singles, before Connor Aitchenson and Duke Medema took care of Justin Gilbert and Christian Andersen, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, in a marathon match that lasted three hours. Mick Willis and Brian Palacios completed the Marauders’ come back after they defeated Lucas Young and Steven Potts, 6-2, 6-2, in second doubles.
