Injury-depleted Marauders drop Division 1 contest to Allegany-Limestone
ALLEGANY – The injury-depleted Dunkirk Marauders (4-6, 7-8) suffered a 10-3 loss at the hands of Allegany-Limestone (4-6) on Tuesday in CCAA Division 1 high school baseball action.
The Gators’ Kevin Wentworth pitched a complete game and struck out five, gave up six hits, walked one and hit a batter.
The Marauders scored a run in the fourth as Kevin Burns singled and eventually scored on two consecutive passed balls.
In the fifth inning, Juliam Fred scored Dunkirk’s second run as he was hit by a pitch and scored on a Burns sacrifice fly.
Nate Skubis scored the Marauders’ final run in the sixth inning as he reached on an error and scored on Fred’s sacrifice fly.
Jayvee callup Jianni DeJesus threw 3 2/3 innings for the Marauders and Nick Thompson finished up.
“We are dealing with some injuries and pitching woes,” Dunkirk coach Frank Jagoda said.
Burns led the Dunkirk offense with two hits and Tyreek Ruiz added a base hit in a losing effort.
The two teams are back in action today at Dunkirk.
Westfield 7, Forestville 3
FORESTVILLE – The Westfield Wolverines (11-1, 8-1) defeated the Forestville Hornets (3-9, 3-5) for the second straight day Tuesday in CCAA Division 3 baseball action, this time 7-3.
Westfield built a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third on a pair of RBI singles from Monday’s winning pitcher Nolan Hunt and RBI doubles from Cam Wright and Travis Rammelt. However, Forestville got back into the game it its half of the third on a two-run single by Cody Jackson.
The Hornets cut the Wolverines’ lead to one in the bottom of the fourth after John Murphy chased Dylan Szumigala home with an RBI groundout. However, that was as close as the Hornets got to the lead, as the Wolverines scored two runs in the top of the fifth and another in the seventh for the 7-4 win.
Rammelt finished with three hits and an RBI while Wright (RBI) and Hunt (two RBIs) finished with two hits each.
Rob Burgess picked up the win as he allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four and walking three over the game’s first four innings. He added an RBI single in the fifth to help his own cause. Brandon Johnston finished up for the Wolverines, tossing three perfect innings and striking out four.
Jake Nosbisch was saddled with the loss as he allowed seven runs (four earned) on 11 hits while striking out four in a complete-game effort.
Ripley 9, North Collins 7
RIPLEY – The Ripley Eagles benefited from six North Collins (6-3, 7-6) errors for a 9-7 victory Tuesday in CCAA Division 4 high school baseball.
North Collins’ errors led to six unearned runs for the winners.
Michael Lisek led Ripley’s offense with two hits, including a double to drive in two runs. Trevor Enterline highlighted a five-run first inning with a two-run single for the winners.
“Bottom line is we kicked the ball around too much,” North Collins coach Paul Kellner said. “We could have gotten out of innings without giving up runs, but we gave them extra outs.”
Jared Keppel led North Collins with two hits and as many RBIs.
