Calling all communities: group needs help to revitalize Chautauqua County
On Sunday evening Chautauqua County revitalization group co-president Mary Jane Starks, Fredonia Garden Club President Rose Mary Mancuso and co-president Margaret Valone met at Valone’s house to plan the May monthly meeting, which will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Fredonia Village Hall. The women are asking each community in Northern Chautauqua County to send a representative to this organizational meeting. They are looking for representatives from Westfield, Dunkirk, Fredonia, Silver Creek, Forestville, Brocton, Cassadaga, Lily Dale, Irving and all other Chautauqua County communities to attend.
“We must decide what things we can do individually and what things we can do collectively. We need to know what is being done so that we can contribute,” Valone said. “We need to plan new things. We don’t want to reinvent the wheel.”
The group is hoping mayors will attend the meeting or send representatives. They also want the Chamber of Commerce represented, as well as community organizations. Plans are under way to make their efforts visible. They are determined to accomplish their goal of revitalizing Chautauqua County, but they need the help of each community.
