Sheridan Historical Society seeks submissions for local veterans project
SHERIDAN – Lists of Sheridan service men and women have been kept for years, but in many cases little is known about the real people on the rolls. The Sheridan Historical Society would like to improve on that by putting faces to names with a collection of photographs and short biographies of veterans, and those currently serving, through a project called “Sheridan Veterans Remembered.”
While the society’s collection houses a few photographs and short biographies, the current goal is to be as inclusive as possible. To accomplish this, assistance is needed from families and friends. Those who would like to be included, or have a loved one or ancestor with a Sheridan connection who served in the military during any time period to include, with a photo and service information to be displayed, contact Mary Langworthy at 672-2201 or Virginia Becker at 673-1822 by May 22. It is asked that the photo be donated so that it may be kept in the collection file for future reference and display. Help the historical society honor those who served.
“Sheridan Veterans Remembered” will be an ongoing project, added to every year as photographs and bios are received. This year’s display will be available for viewing in the great room of the old Town Hall at Sheridan Center from 9 a.m. to noon, prior to the Memorial Day parade and services. The society’s upstairs collection room will also be open.
